"Wandering West Rogaine"

Saturday 6th - Sunday 7th June 2009

The 2009 Australian Rogaining Championships will be hosted by the Western Australian Rogaining Association (WARA).

WARA has been organising rogaines for nearly 30 years and has extensive experience holding events for large numbers of competitors.  We think the WARA hash house is the best in Australia.  Preparation for the event began early in 2008 and is now well advanced.  The setting, vetting, administration and hash house teams are all experienced rogainers and have volunteered in these roles frequently in the past.
The event organizers have spent considerable effort in selecting an site which has something for everyone.  The hash house site is conveniently located an hour and a half drive south east of Perth. The event map comprises 90% pristine eucalypt forest (wandoo, jarrah and marri) and 10% farmland.  The topography is generally flat and includes both subtle and occasional well-defined features, thereby providing navigational challenges for all competitors, regardless of ability or experience.   The vegetation is varied and generally a delight to walk through, especially the wandoo woodland which offers excellent visibility and little understorey.  The setters have designed a course that will offer an appropriate challenge to everyone; the young, the young-at-heart, social rogainers through to those intending to push hard and claim the national title.  Route planning will be important as visiting all controls is unlikely.
Coaches will be available for travel from Perth city and the domestic airport to the event site and return.  Departures will be timed for connection with interstate flights on Friday afternoon.  The coaches will stop en-route at a shopping centre for any last-minute supplies and arrive at the hash house site in time for the WARA-provided dinner on Friday evening.
Competition will be held in the standard Australian Rogaine Championship categories, as well as a few WARA-specific categories such as family, novice, junior (under 18) and ultra-vets.
On-line entry will be available, from 9th March 2009 and closing on 27th May. Commemorative clothing will also be available for purchase on-line. Entries details and further information are available at wa.rogaine.asn.au/ozchamps .
