The 8th World Rogaining Championship has been won and run this weekend past with an Overall victory to Evgeny Dombrovskiy and Pavel Shestakov of Russia who won the Men's category also. Second place went to the winners of the 2006 Championships Chris Forne and Dennis de Monchy of New Zealand with Oleg Kalinin and Sergey Yashchenko of Russia taking third place.

Irina Safronova and Pavel Sysoev of Russia won the Open Mixed and finished 7th overall with a youngish Latvian team Valters Abolins,Andris Ansabergs and Mara Leitane finishing 2nd in the Mixed (9th overall). Third went to another Latvian Team of Valters Kaminskis, Guntis Pikurs and Dace Tranina (14th overall).

The Open Women was won by Alida Abola and Baiba Ozola of Latvia who also won the Veteran Women class-21st overall. Second in the Open Women went to Elena Bondar and Anna Burlinova-24th overall. Only two points seperated these two teams. The best placed Australian Team was Heather Logie and Susan Sprague 3rd in the Open Women-34th overall.

A qucik scan of the results showed a low number of withdrawls and DNS. One interesting result was for two thirds of the Open Mixed Winners in 2006 - Anita Liepina and Guntars Mankus - had 151 points (overall winners had 304) but only spent 12hr:51min:43sec on the course so they clearly had a problem.

The overall highest placed Australian was David Rowland with his regular WRC team mate Grega Barbour of New Zealand taking 11th overall (9th Male and 2nd Men Veteran). The highest placed Australian Team was Julie Quinn and David Baldwin who finished 22nd overall and 7th in the Mixed.

Ian Herbert and Joan Reynolds won second place in the Mixed Super Veterans.

Sharon Crawford of the USA won second place with her regular Australian WRC Team mate in the Women Super Veteran category this continues a long series of successful performance in this category.
Robin Spriggs N-63 AUS

Congratulations.
